About Us: The African American Heritage Association of Virginia (AAHA! Virginia) and the African American Heritage Tourism Network (AAHTN) are nonprofit and community-centered initiatives dedicated to elevating African American heritage through curated travel experiences, digital engagement, print and multimedia publishing, and collaborative economic development. We operate a high-visibility media platform—including Soul of Virginia Magazine, AAHA Journal, monthly newsletters, travel guides, loyalty programs, and commemorative cultural events—serving audiences throughout Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region. Position Overview: We seek a dynamic, self-motivated sales professional with a background in advertising, media sales, or hospitality/tourism marketing. This individual will drive ad sales and sponsorship engagement across our integrated platforms and events while cultivating strong relationships with local businesses, destination marketing organizations (DMOs), hotels, restaurants, and tourism partners (both Virtual and brick-and-mortar). Key Responsibilities: • Secure advertising and sponsorship contracts for: • Soul of Virginia Magazine (Bi-monthly) • AAHA Journal (Quarterly) • Monthly digital newsletters and web platforms • AAHTN travel loyalty campaigns and cultural events • Develop and manage client relationships in tourism, hospitality, and cultural sectors • Coordinate cross-promotional campaigns with strategic partners and advertisers • Participate in regional trade events and networking opportunities • Work with internal teams to align sales with editorial calendars and outreach campaigns • Track and report on sales performance using CRM tools (training provided if needed) Ideal Candidate: • Based in Virginia or the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region • 3–5+ years of experience in media, tourism, or hospitality advertising sales • Strong contacts with DMOs, hotel groups, restaurants, cultural venues, and local businesses • Self-starter with excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills • Familiarity with multicultural marketing and community-based tourism is a plus • Comfortable working independently with weekly check-ins and remote collaboration Compensation: Commission-based with potential for performance bonuses, event participation stipends, and travel expense reimbursement. Contract or Commission-Based Opportunity | Immediate Start Preferred. The position is a long-term contract or full-time opportunity based on performance.
