Biomechanics Engineer/Consultant for Mechanism Design of Wearable Massage Device

$45.00
Hourly: $45.00 - $100.00

We are developing a deep tissue, wearable massage device centered on a press and glide motion and seek a skilled mechanical engineer to focus on designing and refining the mechanism responsible for this motion, leveraging expertise in biomechanics, robotics, and manufacturing. As non-engineers with initial concepts, we seek a creative, methodical engineer to assess our ideas, propose new ones, and develop the most promising into a safe, effective mechanism meeting stringent design constraints and requirements. We seek a creative engineer to brainstorm at least 8+ innovative, theoretical mechanisms to achieve a press and glide motion or equivalent outcome, meeting the following requirements: - Force: 4–12 lbs. - Compression: 0.5–1.5 inches. - Path: 10–14 inches. - Motion Coverage: Sequential. - Possible Mechanisms: - Mechanical (e.g., cable-driven, gear-based, rotating, cam based). - Pneumatic (e.g., air-driven actuators). - Etc. Narrow down to the top 3 mechanisms through initial evaluation of feasibility, simplicity, effectiveness, adaptability to diverse body shapes, safety for soft tissue interactions, and cost, using quick CAD sketches and preliminary FEA. Then conduct detailed analysis of the top 3 mechanisms, considering the use case and manufacturing constraints, and design a barebones version of each for 3D printing to compare the effectiveness of the different mechanisms in reality. We’re seeking deliverables that outline a clear path to testable prototypes. We’re open to refining our ideas and eager for your input, with the primary goal of identifying the most practical mechanisms for 3D printing and real-world testing. A rough timeline: Meetings: 1-2 Initial meetings to discuss scope, share existing ideas and brainstorm potential mechanisms and limitations. Meeting 3: Review Broad Concepts Develop 8-10 theoretical mechanisms with quick sketches/renders to illustrate function/movement. Meeting 4: Narrowing Down Selection process for the top 3, with pros/cons and preliminary analysis. Meeting 5: Prototype Design Detailed analysis of the top 3, including CAD renderings, 3D printing drawings, FEA results, use case suitability, manufacturing feasibility, and beta design rationale.
