We update classic Christian books from the Puritan era, and this new project will require more updating than most. The title of this book is The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs, originally written in the 16 hundreds. The language is quite archaic. This project will involve: 1. Updating archaic words and phrases while still being careful to maintain the author's original intention and tone (inasmuch as that is possible). 2. Splitting extra-long sentences and paragraphs. 3. Comparing to the original text if verification is needed. Please note that we're not looking for a complete rewrite - we do want the sentences to still be recognizably Borroughs' writing. Only truly archaic words and phrases should be updated, and the rest remain as-is. But still, I'd expect that to be a word or two from each sentence updated, and perhaps half the paragraphs split in two to shorten longer paragraphs a bit. The manuscript is currently 102,682 words long, and I've attached the first chapter for your review and so you can see the nature of the updating that is needed. As you'll notice, some minor cleanup and editing as already been completed by a volunteer, but more is needed. We use the Chicago Manual of Style and the Christian Writer's Manual of Style, as well as our own in-house rules. However, after you are finished, we will have a proofreader also work on the project, and he or she will be able to take care of any stylistic changes that are still needed after you are done. At this time, we do not accept AI editing or updating. This is mostly due to the spiritual nature of this project and the extreme importance of not changing meaning while updating the text. Our experience is that AI is still not as good as a human being who understands the Scriptures and also the heart and intention of the original writers. Please plan on submitting the first few pages (in Word, using Track Changes), and then the first 10 percent of the project for review so we can make sure we're on the same page, if you are selected for this project.
