I'm a social media researcher at a US-based university with a somewhat unusual request for a US-based TikTok user. Specifically I need someone who has had one of their videos blocked or shadowbanned by TikTok. The video must return the following message when viewed in an incognito browser window or by users other than its creator: "Video currently unavailable / Looking for videos? Try browsing our trending creators, hashtags, and sounds." Manually deleted videos will not work. If you have such a video, here's what I need you to do: 1. First, browse to your video in an incognito or private browser window, making sure to stay logged out of TikTok. It should display the "Video currently unavailable" message written above. Run the "View Source" command, then press Ctrl-F on Windows (Command-F on Mac) and search for the following phrase without quotes: "status_self_see". I'll only pay the fee for a video page containing this message in its source code (I'll verify that on my end). 2. Take a brief video with your phone showing your computer screen when you try to view your blocked video in a browser while logged in to TikTok, and then showing that the video URL displays the message above when viewed in an incognito or private browser window. The video probably doesn't need to be much longer than 10 seconds. 3. Take a screenshot of the logged-in browser window described above showing your blocked video. 4. Send me the TikTok video URL, your phone video, and the screenshot (in PNG or JPG format). Should be a pretty easy $50 for whoever can get it done first. Happy to answer any questions.
