Title: Seeking Senior OpenStack (Genestack) Engineer for Ongoing On-Premises Cloud Management Job Description We are looking for a highly experienced OpenStack engineer with specific expertise in Genestack’s containerized OpenStack Flex deployment. Our environment is already up and running (Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Horizon/Skyline, Cinder, Octavia, Glance, Heat, Magnum, Ceilometer, Gnocchi, etc.) on Kubernetes with Rook-Ceph storage, Envoy gateway, and MetalLB. We need a professional who can manage, optimize, troubleshoot, and continuously improve this multi-tenant on-premises environment to function as a hybrid public/private cloud. You will be responsible for end-to-end best practices across networking, storage, security, and performance tuning. Our goal is to deliver top-tier performance and reliability for our clients. This is a long-term engagement—we want someone who will partner with us to ensure everything from day-to-day operations to strategic enhancements is handled properly. You will have full access to the environment and work alongside our internal team. Responsibilities • Optimize and Manage all core OpenStack components (Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Octavia, etc.) in a Kubernetes-based deployment with Rook-Ceph. • Configure and Tune networking (OVN/OVS, external networks, floating IPs, routing) and load balancing (Octavia) in a high-availability, multi-tenant setup. • Implement Security Best Practices: TLS everywhere, role-based access, external API hardening, firewall configurations, etc. • Performance Tuning for large-scale workloads (e.g., Ceph optimizations, network throughput, API rate-limiting). • Set Up and Maintain user self-service capabilities (e.g., Keystone user signup, project creation workflows, Horizon/Skyline config). • Oversee Monitoring and Telemetry with Ceilometer, Gnocchi, Prometheus/Grafana (if relevant), ensuring logs and metrics are properly collected and analyzed. • Provide Guidance on architecture enhancements, capacity planning, backups, DR strategies, and ongoing cluster improvements. • Troubleshoot Complex Issues within OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Ceph layers; ensure rapid resolution and minimal downtime. Required Qualifications • Deep Experience with OpenStack (preferably 3+ years) including advanced networking (Neutron, OVN/OVS), storage (Cinder RBD, Ceph, Swift/RGW), and orchestration (Heat, Magnum). • Hands-On Expertise in Genestack/OpenStack Flex or a similarly containerized OpenStack deployment. • Strong Kubernetes Skills: knowledge of Helm, MetalLB, Envoy or other ingress/gateway solutions, containerized microservices. • Ceph/Rook Mastery: configuring pools, RBD, RGW, keyring/auth, performance tuning for block and object storage. • Security & Hardening: TLS, token management (Fernet), Keystone policies, network isolation, firewall rules. • Scripting & Automation: ability to automate tasks (Python, Ansible, or similar) for large-scale environments. • Excellent Communication Skills: able to work with internal teams, explain complex topics, document procedures. Nice-to-Have • Experience configuring Octavia or other LBaaS solutions for external/public IP load balancers. • Familiarity with Barbican for secret management, advanced encryption setups. • Background in billing/chargeback systems (Ceilometer, Gnocchi, CloudKitty). • Experience with advanced features like Designate (DNSaaS), advanced federation in Keystone, or container services (Magnum) in production. What We Offer • Long-term collaboration: We are looking for someone to be our go-to OpenStack expert on an ongoing basis. • Challenging & Cutting-Edge Environment: Work on a hybrid public/private cloud environment using the latest container-based OpenStack architecture. • Autonomy & Impact: Significant influence over architecture, best practices, and operational excellence. If you have a proven track record of managing large-scale or production-grade OpenStack/Genestack environments, and you’re ready to own a mission-critical cloud deployment that serves multiple tenants, we’d love to hear from you! How to Apply • Please submit your proposal detailing relevant OpenStack experience (particularly with Genestack/Kubernetes-based deployments). • Include examples or case studies of similar projects (if possible). • Provide your availability (hours per week) and desired hourly/weekly/monthly rate. We look forward to collaborating with you to take our OpenStack-based cloud to the next level. Thank you for your interest!
