I am looking for a cinematographer for a dance film project filming on either 4/19 or 4/20 in New York City. The film shoot will be from 2-4 hours. The concept is to record ballet in the process of rehearsal with a docu-realist feel. That means we are embracing mistakes, long takes, and minimal camera setups. We want to make use of the real, unpolished elements of the space (natural lighting, no set) and natural performances of two dancers in rehearsal. Our references include Sean Baker's work, his cinematographer Drew Daniel's work as well (Anora, Krisha), Ruben Ostlund, and especially the documentarian Frederick Wiseman. This clip from Wiseman's film La Danse is exactly the sort of thing we are trying to capture, so check it out if you're interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0-QjlEy5Mg&authuser=0 While we welcome experience, it is not necessary as we ask that you bring an open mind and collaborative spirit to the process! Ability to adapt and work together will be ideal as we will have a very short shoot! We are open to everything else: film/digital, experience capturing dance/no experience or experience in related fields. Please reach out if you're interested!
