Industrial Designer Needed for Visual Redesign of Consumer Product (Patent-Oriented)

We’re looking for an experienced industrial designer to help us redesign the outer visual form of a successful, existing consumer product. This is a confidential project with IP implications. The objective is to create a design that is: ✅ Visually distinct enough to qualify for design patent protection (USA + international) ✅ Close enough to the existing product that it appears visually consistent to the average consumer ✅ Compatible with unchanged internal components, including the blade mechanism and connector hub ✅ Delivered with high attention to detail, as this design will go through a legal “freedom to operate” (FTO) analysis prior to filing What We’re Looking For: We are seeking someone with: -5+ years of industrial design experience, specifically for consumer electronics or handheld products -A deep understanding of product ergonomics, silhouette, and material transitions -Strong visual taste and ability to reinterpret design constraints creatively -Familiarity with design patent considerations (preferred but not required) -Ability to produce presentation-ready renderings and/or exportable CAD for legal and internal review Project Scope: You will be given: -Full access to the existing product’s CAD files -A clear IP strategy brief prepared by our legal team (outlining which visual elements need to be changed and why) -Reference images of the current product and competitors You will deliver: -3 design concepts with varying levels of visual modification (minimal, moderate, backup/aggressive) -Front, side, top, and isometric views for each concept -Visual callouts or brief design rationale notes per concept -Final files in editable CAD and/or presentation-ready renders This Project Is Right for You If: -You’ve worked on product redesigns under IP/legal constraints -You have experience with subtle, high-fidelity design refinement -You can balance aesthetics, usability, and legal/technical requirements -You’re comfortable working within a confidential, strategically sensitive project Timeline: We are ready to begin immediately.
