Excel Expert Needed for Data Entry

I have 3000 rows of data that need to converted. I tried using a formula or reformatting the numbers but I am unable to figure it out on my own. We have a custom format of time as: [h]:mm:ss but I am unable to format without losing the data. The custom format came from the native spreadsheet, which we currently do not have access to. We only have the custom format so we cannot use the software to get a different format produced. We need someone to convert each line from the custom hour format to hours. For example if the custom hour format is: 52:15:00, we need someone to make a row that takes that number and converts it to hours in excess of 40. In other words, will produce: 12:15 (52:15 - 40). Conversely, if there is a number smaller than 40, such as 37, we need the row to read -3. Thank you.
